Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory samples, reagents, and equipment for experiments following established protocols.
- Conduct routine laboratory tasks such as media preparation, sterilisation, and waste disposal.
- Assist research scientists with experimental procedures, data collection, and analysis.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, results, and observations in lab notebooks and digital systems.
- Perform calibration, cleaning, and basic maintenance of laboratory instruments and apparatus.
- Monitor and manage laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures (HSE), including COSHH regulations.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient laboratory environment.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding experimental design and results.
Required Skills
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Forensics, Biomedical Science).
- Proven experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in scientific research or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of basic laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in experimental execution and data recording.
- Proficiency in using standard laboratory equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- HND or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field.
- Experience with specific analytical techniques (e.g., Spectroscopy, Chromatography, Microscopy).
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- First Aid certification.
