Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Support Assistant to join our dedicated team in Chicuque, Maxixe. This full-time position is critical to the smooth and efficient operation of our clinical diagnostic laboratory. As a Laboratory Support Assistant, you will be the backbone of our daily activities, providing essential logistical and administrative support that enables our technologists and pathologists to focus on complex analysis and accurate diagnosis. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver prompt and reliable results, playing a crucial role in patient care outcomes across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and process patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) accurately and according to established protocols.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, and media following strict guidelines.
  • Maintain and sterilize laboratory equipment and glassware, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies, restocking shelves, and monitoring expiration dates.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on equipment and reagents under supervision.
  • Assist laboratory technologists with various procedures, including setting up experiments and preparing slides.
  • Accurately enter patient and sample data into the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory records and documentation.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with other laboratory staff, nurses, and administrative personnel.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (data entry, Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent time management and punctuality
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese (and basic English)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or certification in laboratory science, healthcare assistance, or a related field
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory, healthcare, or similar structured environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and handling of biological samples
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
