Career.zycto is actively seeking a diligent and motivated Land Survey Assistant Technician to join our growing team in Sherwood, Charlottetown. As a Land Survey Assistant Technician, you will play a crucial role in the accurate collection of field data, ensuring the foundation for precise mapping, construction, and development projects.

Your day-to-day will involve a mix of outdoor fieldwork and some office support, utilizing state-of-the-art surveying equipment such as Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and LiDAR scanners. You’ll be instrumental in setting up equipment, taking measurements, documenting site conditions, and performing basic computations. Safety is paramount, and you will be expected to adhere to all company and industry safety protocols while working in diverse environments, from urban settings to undeveloped landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed surveyors and senior technicians in all phases of land surveying projects.
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment including Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and automatic levels.
  • Perform field measurements and data collection accurately and efficiently.
  • Set up, adjust, and level surveying instruments, ensuring proper calibration.
  • Document field notes, sketches, and other relevant information clearly and concisely.
  • Assist with the layout of control points, property lines, and construction stakes.
  • Conduct reconnaissance for survey control and boundary evidence.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Transport equipment and supplies to and from job sites.
  • Perform basic data processing and computations under supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders on site.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and geometry.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (e.g., co-op, internship) in a surveying or construction environment.
  • Familiarity with surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center).
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maps.
