Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, watering, and fertilizing lawns, gardens, and flowerbeds.
- Operate and maintain a variety of landscaping equipment, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and hand tools, ensuring their safe and efficient use.
- Plant new trees, shrubs, flowers, and other foliage in accordance with landscape designs or client specifications.
- Monitor plant health, identify common pests and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments or escalate issues as needed.
- Maintain and perform minor repairs on irrigation systems to ensure optimal water distribution.
- Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of all outdoor areas, including debris removal, litter collection, and waste disposal.
- Implement basic pest and weed control measures to protect landscapes and outdoor structures.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for self and colleagues.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of hardscaping features like pathways, patios, and fences when required.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients regarding project progress, issues, and requirements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable landscaping practices and resource management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor maintenance roles.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining a diverse range of landscaping equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge cutters).
- Solid knowledge of plant care, including pruning techniques, pest identification, disease prevention, and soil management.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and their functionality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges in outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Horticulture, Landscaping, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Valid Kenyan driver's license (Class BCE or similar) with a clean driving record.
- Experience with landscape design implementation and installation projects.
- Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and specific environmental conditions in the Nakuru region.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in minor hardscaping or construction work.
