Job Description

Mount Kenya University is seeking an innovative and experienced Lead Digital Communication Designer to join our dynamic Marketing and Corporate Affairs team. This pivotal role involves spearheading the conceptualization, design, and execution of compelling digital visual content across all university platforms, including our website, social media channels, email campaigns, online advertising, and digital learning environments. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing MKU’s brand presence, engaging diverse audiences—from prospective students and alumni to faculty and partners—and effectively communicating our academic offerings, research achievements, and institutional values. You will be responsible for translating complex communication objectives into intuitive, aesthetically pleasing, and highly effective digital designs that resonate with our target demographics. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of all digital visual content, ensuring brand consistency and adherence to university guidelines across all platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, admissions, academic departments, and IT teams to understand communication objectives and translate them into effective digital design strategies.
  • Manage and mentor a team of junior designers, providing guidance, feedback, and fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the creation of engaging multimedia assets, including infographics, animations, videos, interactive elements, and web graphics.
  • Develop and implement UI/UX best practices for university digital platforms, optimizing for user experience and accessibility.
  • Stay abreast of emerging digital design trends, technologies, and best practices, continuously proposing innovative solutions to enhance MKU’s digital presence.
  • Conduct A/B testing and analyze performance metrics of digital content to inform design decisions and optimize campaign effectiveness.
  • Ensure all digital communications are optimized for various devices and platforms, maintaining high visual quality and loading speed.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of digital marketing campaigns, providing expert design insights and solutions.
  • Manage design project timelines, resources, and deliverables efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in graphic design, web design, and multimedia production.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, XD/Figma).
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and responsive design.
  • Excellent visual communication and storytelling abilities.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and email marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrable leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong portfolio showcasing diverse digital design work.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
