Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing, and proofreading a wide range of legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, contracts, and briefs, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
  • Managing and organising physical and electronic client files, maintaining an efficient filing system, and ensuring all documentation is readily accessible.
  • Assisting with case management by tracking deadlines, scheduling appointments, court dates, and maintaining calendars for attorneys.
  • Conducting preliminary legal research under the guidance of attorneys to support case development and strategy.
  • Preparing and filing legal documents with courts and other administrative bodies, adhering strictly to procedural rules and deadlines.
  • Liaising with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other external parties in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Performing general administrative tasks such as answering phones, managing emails, photocopying, scanning, and preparing expense reports.
  • Assisting with billing procedures, preparing invoices, and managing time entries.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of all client and firm information.
  • Supporting attorneys in trial preparation, including organising exhibits and witness binders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (minimum 2 years).
  • Exceptional drafting, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, or similar UK-specific platforms).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A solid understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognised Legal Assistant or Paralegal certification (e.g., CILEx, NALP).
  • Experience with specific case management software.
  • Familiarity with the Scottish legal system and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of e-filing systems.
