Job Description

Bank of Kigali is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team in Kayonza. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and is looking for a role with flexible hours, allowing for a better work-life balance while contributing significantly to our legal operations. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative and legal support to our legal counsel, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our legal department’s regional activities. You will play a crucial role in managing legal documentation, assisting with compliance matters, conducting preliminary research, and facilitating communication within the legal team and with external stakeholders. Your ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to varying priorities will be key to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents, correspondence, and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established formats.
  • Organize and maintain legal files, both physical and electronic, ensuring proper indexing, archiving, and retrieval systems.
  • Conduct preliminary legal research on specific topics, statutes, and regulations as directed by legal counsel.
  • Assist in the preparation for legal proceedings, meetings, and presentations, including compiling relevant materials.
  • Manage calendars, schedule appointments, and coordinate meetings for legal counsel and the legal department.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external legal firms, governmental agencies, and clients as needed, handling inquiries professionally.
  • Process invoices, expenses, and manage office supplies for the legal department.
  • Support the legal team in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in legal terminology and legal procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information ethically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (1-3 years) as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, preferably within a financial institution or corporate legal department.
  • Familiarity with Rwandan legal system and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
