Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Librarian to join our dedicated team at D.A.V College in Curepipe. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management and enhancement of our college library’s extensive collection of books and resources, both print and digital. As a Librarian, you will be instrumental in creating an inviting, stimulating, and technologically advanced learning hub that supports the academic and research needs of our students and faculty. Your responsibilities will span from curating new acquisitions, ensuring efficient cataloging and indexing, to providing exceptional user support and promoting literacy and research skills across the college community.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the acquisition, cataloging, classification, and organization of all library materials (books, periodicals, multimedia, digital resources).
- Provide research assistance and guidance to students and faculty, helping them effectively utilize library resources for academic projects and studies.
- Develop and implement engaging library programs, workshops, and events to promote literacy, reading, and information literacy skills.
- Oversee the circulation desk, manage borrower records, and ensure efficient check-in/check-out processes.
- Maintain the library's physical space, ensuring a conducive and organized environment for study and research.
- Evaluate and select new resources, including subscriptions to databases and journals, in alignment with the college curriculum and academic needs.
- Utilize Library Management Systems (LMS) for daily operations, inventory management, and reporting.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support teaching methodologies.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in library science, educational technology, and information management.
- Manage the library budget for acquisitions and operational expenses.
- Address user queries, troubleshoot access issues, and provide technical support for digital resources.
- Safeguard library collections and assets, including overseeing preservation efforts and managing overdue materials.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Library Management Systems (LMS) and cataloging standards (e.g., MARC, RDA).
- Strong knowledge of collection development and resource management principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assist users with research and information retrieval.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer literacy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS).
