Career.zycto is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Librarian specializing in Resource Management to join our dynamic team in Kitts Green, Birmingham. This pivotal role is central to ensuring the effective acquisition, organisation, and accessibility of our diverse collection of print and electronic resources, directly supporting the information needs of our staff, clients, and community. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping our resource landscape, from strategic collection development and vendor negotiations to the meticulous cataloging and metadata management that underpins efficient information retrieval. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of library resources, including selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, and deaccessioning of print and electronic materials.
  • Develop and implement robust collection development policies and procedures in alignment with organizational objectives and user needs.
  • Negotiate licensing agreements and pricing with vendors for electronic resources, ensuring cost-effectiveness and optimal access.
  • Perform professional cataloging and metadata creation using established standards (e.g., MARC, RDA, AACR2), ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Administer and optimize the Library Management System (LMS) for resource management modules, including acquisitions, serials, and cataloging.
  • Monitor and manage the resource acquisition budget, preparing regular reports on expenditure and resource utilization.
  • Evaluate potential new resources, trials, and emerging technologies to enhance the library's offerings and user experience.
  • Troubleshoot access issues for electronic resources and liaise with vendors and IT support for resolution.
  • Stay current with developments in library science, resource management, and information technology through professional development and networking.
  • Contribute to the development of library policies, procedures, and strategic planning.
  • Provide training and support to staff and users on resource discovery and access tools.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in library resource management or technical services.
  • Proficiency in cataloging standards (MARC, RDA, AACR2) and classification systems (Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification).
  • Extensive experience with Library Management Systems (LMS) – e.g., Alma, Koha, Symphony.
  • Strong understanding of metadata standards and linked data principles.
  • Demonstrable experience in vendor negotiation and license management for electronic resources.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Experience with ERM (Electronic Resource Management) systems.
  • Familiarity with open access initiatives and institutional repositories.
  • Project management experience within a library or information services context.
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital preservation and archiving.
  • Membership in professional library associations (e.g., CILIP).
