Key Responsibilities
- Assist library patrons with locating materials, using library resources, and answering general inquiries.
- Perform circulation duties, including checking books in and out, processing holds, and registering new patrons.
- Accurately shelve and organize library materials (books, magazines, multimedia) according to library classification systems.
- Maintain the neatness and orderliness of library shelves, reading areas, and common spaces.
- Assist in processing new acquisitions, labeling, and preparing materials for circulation.
- Support the planning and execution of library programs and events for various age groups.
- Perform basic clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
- Handle minor library equipment troubleshooting and report larger issues to supervisors.
- Promote a positive and welcoming environment for all library users.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
Required Skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese and English.
- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with word processing and email.
- Ability to provide friendly and effective customer service.
- Capable of standing, bending, lifting, and carrying library materials (up to 20 kg).
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a library, school, or customer service environment.
- Familiarity with library management software or cataloging systems.
- Knowledge of local languages spoken in Inhambane Province (e.g., Gitonga, Chopi).
