Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly motivated and meticulously organized Part-Time Library Support Aide to enrich our dedicated team at Escola Secundária de Massinga. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students and staff with locating books, resources, and information within the library.
  • Organize and re-shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Process new library materials, including labeling, stamping, and cataloging under supervision.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the library space, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
  • Help manage overdue materials and assist with circulation desk duties, including checking materials in and out.
  • Provide basic technical support for library computers and printers, or direct users to appropriate assistance.
  • Support the Head Librarian with administrative tasks and special projects as needed, such as event preparation or inventory.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese (official language of Mozambique).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate shelving and cataloging.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, internet browsing).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Friendly, approachable, and patient demeanor with students of all ages.
  • A genuine interest in books, reading, and promoting literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a library, school, or customer service environment.
  • Familiarity with library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System).
  • Secondary school diploma (12th grade equivalent) or higher.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (advantageous for some resources).
