Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and organized Part-Time Library Support Assistant to enhance the operational efficiency and patron experience at a vibrant educational library located in Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt. This role is crucial for maintaining an orderly and accessible library environment, ensuring that all users can easily find the resources they need. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with locating books, periodicals, and other library materials.
  • Perform shelving and re-shelving of materials accurately and efficiently, maintaining proper order.
  • Process new library acquisitions, including stamping, labeling, and data entry.
  • Handle circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, managing holds, and processing renewals.
  • Maintain the general organization and cleanliness of library shelves, reading areas, and workstations.
  • Provide basic technical support for library computers, printers, and other equipment.
  • Assist with administrative duties including photocopying, filing, and preparing notices.
  • Support inventory management and conduct periodic shelf-reading to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of library programs and events.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or facility issues to the appropriate personnel.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an administrative, clerical, or customer service role.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite, email, internet browsing).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Customer-centric attitude with a polite and helpful demeanor.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs and perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a library, archive, or information center.
  • Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., KOHA, Destiny, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of cataloging principles and Dewey Decimal Classification.
