Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the physical processing of new library materials, including stamping, barcoding, and applying protective coverings.
  • Perform basic cataloging tasks, creating and updating bibliographic records under supervision.
  • Help with the acquisition process, checking in new deliveries and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare materials for shelving and ensure accurate placement in accordance with library classification systems.
  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the technical services work areas.
  • Assist with inventory management and weeding projects as directed.
  • Support the repair and maintenance of damaged library materials.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 20 kg, push loaded book carts, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working or volunteering in a library or information services setting.
  • Basic knowledge of library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification).
  • Familiarity with library management systems (LMS) or integrated library systems (ILS).
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Library Technician Diploma, Information Studies Certificate).
