You’ll operate across various channels including face-to-face at the customer service counter, over the phone, and via digital correspondence. Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for public enquiries, offering guidance and information on council services, policies, and procedures across multiple channels (in-person, phone, email).
  • Process various applications including permits, registrations, and payments accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with local government regulations.
  • Resolve customer complaints and issues effectively, escalating complex matters to appropriate departments when necessary, and following up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Maintain meticulous records of customer interactions, transactions, and feedback using internal CRM systems.
  • Educate residents about available community programs, events, and resources.
  • Collaborate with various council departments to retrieve information and ensure a coordinated approach to service delivery.
  • Handle cash and electronic payments, reconcile daily transactions, and adhere to financial processing guidelines.
  • Provide administrative support as required, including data entry, document preparation, and general office duties.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably within a public-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with a clear and professional telephone manner.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with CRM or database systems.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm approach to handling challenging customer interactions.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a local government or public sector organisation.
  • Knowledge of local council services and functions relevant to the Geelong region.
  • A certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Customer Service, or a related field.
  • Experience with financial transaction processing and reconciliation.
