Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Machine Shop Technician to join our dynamic team at Arcturus Mine in Mashonaland East. This critical role involves the precise fabrication, repair, and maintenance of various mechanical components essential for our mining operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our heavy machinery, processing plants, and general infrastructure by providing expert machining services. You will work within a well-equipped machine shop, operating a range of manual and CNC machinery to produce high-quality parts, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and implement preventative maintenance programs. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drilling machines, for the fabrication and repair of parts.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
- Perform precision machining operations to exact specifications, ensuring high-quality and functional components.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on various mechanical systems and equipment used throughout the mine.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify conformance of workpieces to specifications.
- Perform welding, brazing, and cutting operations as required for repairs and fabrication tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify mechanical issues and develop effective solutions.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Document work performed, including materials used, time spent, and any recommendations for future maintenance or improvements.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Machine Shop Technician or similar role in an industrial setting.
- Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drilling equipment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
- Solid understanding of material properties and their suitability for various applications.
- Competency in various welding techniques (e.g., Arc, MIG, TIG) and metal fabrication.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to industrial safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or technical diploma in Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with CNC machine operation and programming.
