Job Description

Saruni Samburu is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician with a strong focus on Facility Management and Building Services to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role ensures the continuous operational efficiency and pristine condition of our luxurious lodge facilities, which are critical to our guests’ experience and safety. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from routine inspections and preventive maintenance to emergency repairs across all lodge buildings, guest rooms, public areas, and associated infrastructure. Your expertise will cover electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, and general structural upkeep. We are looking for an individual who is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a remote, yet stunning, environment. This role is fundamental to maintaining our high standards of service and sustainability, contributing directly to the comfort and safety of our guests and staff, and the longevity of our facilities. You will be expected to identify potential issues before they become problems, implement effective solutions, and uphold our commitment to excellence in all aspects of facility management. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to working collaboratively within our close-knit lodge team, ensuring Saruni Samburu continues to be a world-class safari destination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and perform routine preventive maintenance on all lodge facilities, including guest villas, common areas, staff quarters, and associated infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to electrical systems (generators, wiring, lighting), plumbing (water supply, drainage, hot water systems), HVAC, and general building structures.
  • Execute timely and efficient repairs for all identified faults, ensuring minimal disruption to guest experience and lodge operations.
  • Perform carpentry tasks, including furniture repair, door/window adjustments, and minor construction work.
  • Undertake masonry work, plastering, painting, and other general building finishing tasks.
  • Manage and maintain water pumping systems, filtration units, and waste disposal systems.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of spare parts.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests, demonstrating effective problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and guest satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior maintenance staff or external contractors when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician or similar role, with a focus on facility and building services.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and general building maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and circuit diagrams.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote lodge environment.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and climbing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification is a strong advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, Building Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the hospitality sector, particularly in remote lodges or resorts.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards relevant to facility management.
  • Familiarity with generator maintenance and solar power systems.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping.
