Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Full-Time Maintenance Worker to join our essential team at Murambinda Hospital. This critical role ensures the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of our hospital facilities, directly contributing to the well-being and recovery of our patients, the productivity of our staff, and the comfort of our visitors. The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for performing a wide variety of hands-on repair and maintenance tasks across the hospital premises, encompassing all buildings, external grounds, and essential medical and administrative equipment. This involves a comprehensive range of duties, from routine preventative maintenance schedules designed to avert future issues, to prompt and effective emergency repairs that are crucial in a dynamic healthcare setting. The scope of work will cover fundamental trade skills including basic plumbing fixes (e.g., leaky faucets, blocked drains), general electrical system checks and minor repairs (e.g., changing light fixtures, troubleshooting minor power issues), carpentry work (e.g., door repairs, furniture assembly), painting, and overall general upkeep of the hospital infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, highly reliable, and possess a strong understanding of occupational safety protocols and general maintenance best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on hospital equipment, systems, and structures to ensure optimal functionality and longevity.
- Conduct timely repairs to plumbing, basic electrical systems (non-specialized), carpentry, painting, and general structural components.
- Inspect facilities regularly to identify and address potential maintenance issues proactively, preventing costly breakdowns.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests and emergency repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital services.
- Maintain and repair hospital furniture, fixtures, fittings, and other internal assets.
- Assist with groundskeeping tasks, including minor landscaping, waste management, and ensuring external areas are tidy and safe.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively, adhering to all operational guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, health codes, and hospital policies during the execution of all maintenance activities.
- Keep accurate and detailed records of maintenance performed, materials used, and time spent on each task for reporting purposes.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with staff and management regarding maintenance schedules, issues, and potential impacts.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 2 years in general maintenance or a directly related hands-on field.
- Solid basic knowledge of plumbing, general electrical principles, carpentry, and painting techniques.
- Ability to safely and proficiently operate and maintain various hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to accurately diagnose and efficiently fix common maintenance issues.
- Demonstrated physical stamina and capability to perform manual labor, lift moderately heavy objects, and work comfortably in various weather conditions.
