Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on building systems, fixtures, and equipment, with a primary focus on plumbing infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and efficiently resolve a wide array of plumbing issues, including but not limited to leaks, clogs, burst pipes, water pressure problems, and the installation or repair of fixtures such as toilets, sinks, showers, and water heaters.
  • Execute general repair tasks including painting, patching and repairing walls, minor carpentry work, repairing doors and windows, and replacing light fixtures.
  • Conduct thorough and regular inspections of premises and equipment to proactively identify and address potential problems before they escalate into major issues.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to all maintenance requests and emergency call-outs, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Safely and skillfully operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance work performed, materials utilized, and time spent on each task.
  • Strictly adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and established best practices to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Assist in the installation of new equipment, machinery, and plumbing systems as required by project specifications.
  • Collaborate effectively with other maintenance team members, external contractors, and facility managers when specialized work or inter-departmental coordination is necessary.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven practical experience in general building maintenance and repair, with a strong, demonstrable emphasis on plumbing systems.
  • Solid understanding of plumbing codes, systems, components, and tools.
  • Proficiency in performing basic electrical repairs (e.g., replacing switches, outlets) and fundamental carpentry work.
  • Competence in using a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical troubleshooting abilities to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Excellent physical condition, including the ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in various physical positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols and procedures, with a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and/or French.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training certificate or diploma in Plumbing, General Maintenance, Facilities Management, or a related technical trade.
  • Previous experience working in a corporate, hospitality, commercial property, or large institutional facility setting.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and occupational health and safety standards in Mauritius.
  • Valid driving license (Class B).
