Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mason to join our dynamic construction team on a significant building project located in the upscale Runda area of Nairobi. As a Mason, you will be instrumental in laying the groundwork and building the structural integrity of our residential and commercial developments, transforming architectural blueprints into tangible, high-quality constructions. This role demands meticulous craftsmanship, a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of various masonry techniques and materials. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from preparing surfaces and mixing mortar to laying bricks, blocks, and stones with precision, ensuring structural soundness and aesthetic appeal. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces and foundation for masonry work, ensuring they are clean, level, and ready for construction.
- Accurately read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and dimensions of structures.
- Mix mortar, concrete, and other masonry compounds according to specified ratios and consistency.
- Lay bricks, blocks, and stones in various patterns and designs, ensuring proper alignment, spacing, and levelness.
- Cut and trim masonry units to size using hand and power tools, ensuring a neat and professional finish.
- Construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, fireplaces, and other masonry structures.
- Apply plaster, stucco, and other finishes to surfaces as required.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding and other temporary structures as needed, adhering to safety protocols.
- Ensure all work adheres strictly to building codes, safety regulations, and project specifications.
- Collaborate effectively with site supervisors, other skilled tradespeople, and project managers to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and report any malfunctions or damage promptly.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in various masonry techniques (bricklaying, block laying, stonemasonry).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards in construction.
- Ability to work with precision and accuracy, ensuring level, plumb, and square installations.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of masonry tools and equipment (trowels, levels, mixers, grinders, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
