Job Description
Surrey Paving & Aggregate Co. Ltd. is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mason to join our dynamic construction team on an active project site in Highgate, Saint Mary Parish. As a Mason, you will be instrumental in executing high-quality masonry work for various civil and building construction projects. This role requires a keen eye for detail, precision, and a strong understanding of different masonry techniques and materials. You will be responsible for laying bricks, blocks, and other construction materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, and other structures according to blueprints and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering excellent craftsmanship, adhering to strict safety protocols, and working effectively within a team environment. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and dimensions.
- Lay bricks, blocks, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, arches, and other structures.
- Mix mortar, concrete, and other masonry compounds accurately and consistently.
- Cut and trim masonry units to size using hand and power tools.
- Ensure structural integrity and aesthetic quality of masonry work.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other construction workers and project supervisors to ensure project completion on schedule.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant construction regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Identify and report any potential hazards or structural issues on site.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in various masonry techniques (e.g., bricklaying, blocklaying, pointing).
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, their properties, and proper application.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Excellent physical stamina, dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
- Proficiency in using masonry tools and equipment (trowels, levels, hammers, saws, mixers).
- Commitment to workplace safety practices.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and precision in work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in masonry or a related field.
- Experience with specific types of masonry finishes or decorative work.
- Ability to mentor junior masons or apprentices.
