Job Description
Are you a skilled and dedicated Mason with a passion for crafting high-quality residential structures? Norken International Limited is seeking an experienced Mason to join our dynamic construction team in Nakuru. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to a variety of residential projects, from single-family homes to multi-unit dwellings, ensuring precision, durability, and aesthetic appeal in every build. As a Mason, you will be instrumental in the foundational and structural integrity of our projects, working with various materials including bricks, concrete blocks, and natural stone. You will be expected to interpret blueprints, set foundations, lay bricks and blocks, apply mortar, and ensure all masonry work is completed efficiently and accurately within project timelines. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to determine materials and methods required.
- Prepare and lay building materials such as bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and pre-cast masonry units.
- Mix mortar and other concrete mixes by hand or using a mixer, ensuring correct proportions.
- Cut and trim materials to specified sizes using hand and power tools.
- Construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, fireplaces, chimneys, and other structures.
- Ensure all masonry work is level, plumb, and square, maintaining precise measurements and alignment.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures on the construction site.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment, and keep the work area tidy.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction team members, including carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.
- Inspect finished masonry work for quality and adherence to specifications.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in bricklaying and block laying techniques.
- Strong understanding of mortar mixing and application.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools common in masonry work (e.g., trowels, levels, chisels, saws).
- Excellent spatial reasoning and mathematical skills for measurement and calculation.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding tasks and lift heavy materials.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade certificate or diploma in Masonry or a related field.
- Experience with various types of masonry materials and finishes (e.g., natural stone, decorative bricks).
- Valid driver's license.
- Basic first aid certification.
