Job Description

Join our dedicated engineering team as a Mechanical Engineer focused on Plant Operations & Equipment Repair, based in Alwoodley, Leeds. Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical faults in industrial plant machinery and equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative and predictive maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production, electrical, and automation teams to ensure seamless plant operations.
  • Install, commission, and de-commission mechanical equipment as required.
  • Develop and update maintenance procedures, checklists, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for operational efficiency and equipment reliability.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and liaise with suppliers for essential components.
  • Mentor junior technicians and share technical knowledge across the team.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in mechanical fault diagnosis and repair techniques.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, valves, and rotating machinery.
  • Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies (e.g., vibration analysis, thermal imaging).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Competence in using various hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or energy sector environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations specific to industrial settings (e.g., PUWER, LOLER).
  • Project management experience for maintenance or upgrade projects.
