Job Description
This crucial role requires a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to maintain the operational integrity and efficiency of our facilities in Headingley. As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Plant Operations & Equipment Repair, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our machinery and systems run flawlessly. You’ll apply your deep mechanical expertise to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize a diverse range of industrial equipment, from complex rotating machinery and heavy industrial systems to static plant components and piping infrastructure. This isn’t just about reactive fixing; it’s about proactive preventative maintenance, sophisticated predictive analytics, and contributing to strategic improvements that enhance productivity, minimize downtime, and extend asset lifecycles. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance activities on mechanical plant equipment.
- Diagnose complex mechanical faults and perform hands-on repairs, overhauls, and installations of machinery, including pumps, compressors, valves, conveyors, and intricate pipework systems.
- Develop, implement, and refine maintenance strategies to continuously improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, anticipate potential issues, and recommend effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to optimize plant layout, processes, and equipment upgrades, contributing to capital projects.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies during all operations and maintenance activities.
- Manage spare parts inventory, procure necessary components, and liaise effectively with suppliers and external contractors.
- Provide expert technical guidance and hands-on training to junior technicians and operational staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Prepare detailed technical reports on maintenance activities, equipment performance, root cause analyses, and project progress.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise (minimum 4 years) in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex mechanical equipment and systems in an industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of industrial machinery principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and various piping systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering schematics, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and manufacturer manuals.
- Solid knowledge and practical experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for scheduling and tracking.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.

- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.

- Knowledge and practical experience with condition monitoring techniques (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis).
