Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly motivated, empathetic, and clinically adept Medical Doctor to become an integral part of our dedicated team at Spanish Town Hospital, situated in Greendale, Spanish Town. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough medical examinations, accurately diagnose illnesses, and formulate comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans for patients across various departments.
- Prescribe appropriate medications and other therapeutic treatments, closely monitoring patient progress and adjusting therapies as necessary to ensure optimal recovery.
- Order and meticulously interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory analyses, imaging studies (X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans), and other specialized investigations.
- Provide immediate emergency medical care and effectively stabilize critically ill patients as required, adhering to best practice guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with specialist physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, integrated, and holistic patient care.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely medical records, documentation, and patient charts in strict accordance with hospital policies, national regulatory standards, and confidentiality requirements.
- Educate patients and their families empathetically about their medical conditions, available treatment options, prognoses, and crucial preventative health measures.
- Actively participate in daily ward rounds, clinical meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, and continuous professional development activities.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, national health regulations, and professional ethical guidelines, ensuring a high standard of medical practice.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, interns, and medical students, contributing positively to their professional growth and clinical skill development.
Required Skills
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Full and unrestricted registration with the Medical Council of Jamaica.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-internship clinical experience in a recognized hospital setting.
- Strong diagnostic acumen and excellent clinical decision-making skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively and remain composed in a high-pressure, fast-paced medical environment.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant medical software.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, evidence-based medical practice, and continuous quality improvement.
- A strong ethical compass, unwavering professionalism, and commitment to patient confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification or specialization in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, or a related clinical field.
- Prior experience working within a public hospital system in Jamaica or the wider Caribbean region.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Familiarity with and understanding of local cultural nuances and ability to communicate effectively with the diverse patient population (e.g., Jamaican Patois familiarity).
- Experience in medical research, quality improvement initiatives, or participation in clinical audits.
