Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Medical Interpreter to join our dynamic team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In this crucial role, you will serve as a vital link between healthcare providers and patients who have limited English proficiency, ensuring accurate, confidential, and culturally sensitive communication in a variety of medical settings. As a Medical Interpreter with Career.zycto, you will primarily facilitate communication during medical appointments, consultations, and procedures, translating complex medical information with precision and clarity. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and complete interpretation services between patients and medical professionals (doctors, nurses, specialists) in various healthcare settings.
  • Facilitate clear communication regarding medical history, symptoms, diagnoses, treatment plans, consent forms, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all ethical codes and professional standards for medical interpreters.
  • Convey cultural nuances and concepts to ensure mutual understanding between all parties.
  • Document interpretation encounters accurately as required by facility protocols.
  • Act as a cultural broker, when appropriate, to enhance communication and understanding.
  • Be available for scheduled part-time shifts, which may include evenings or weekends, based on demand.

Required Skills

  • Fluency in English and at least one other language relevant to Saskatoon's diverse population (e.g., Punjabi, Mandarin, Tagalog, Cree, Dene, Ukrainian, Arabic, Spanish).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both target languages.
  • Profound understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and common medical procedures.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts.
  • Strong active listening skills and ability to convey complex information accurately.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to remain impartial and objective in challenging situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accreditation or certification as a Medical Interpreter (e.g., CMI, CHI).
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Linguistics, Healthcare Administration, Social Sciences).
  • Prior experience working as a Medical Interpreter in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with local healthcare systems and patient resources in Saskatchewan.
  • Proficiency with virtual interpretation platforms and technology.
