Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Lab Technician to join our dynamic team in Mahebourg. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in various areas including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, serology, and urinalysis, following established protocols and procedures.
- Accurately collect, process, and prepare patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for analysis, ensuring proper identification and integrity.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability.
- Conduct quality control procedures, monitor test results, and participate in quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of accuracy and precision.
- Document and report test results clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner, adhering to all regulatory guidelines and laboratory policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, strictly adhering to laboratory safety protocols, infection control measures, and waste disposal procedures.
- Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, including inventory control, ordering, and proper storage.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and other lab personnel regarding test results, procedures, and related inquiries.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in medical laboratory technology.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience working as a Medical Lab Technician in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
- Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests and techniques across multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document results accurately.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific discipline.
- Professional certification from a recognized medical laboratory technologist association.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for data entry, retrieval, and reporting.
- Familiarity with local and international laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 15189).
- Fluency in both English and French, given the linguistic environment of Mauritius.
