We are seeking a highly motivated and meticulous Medical Lab Technician to join our growing team in Tranquebar, Port Louis. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various laboratory tests and analyses on clinical specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) according to established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and culturing, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as automated analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Analyze test results, interpret data, and record findings accurately and efficiently into the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and assays, performing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Implement and adhere to strict quality control procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all tests performed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, following all health and safety regulations and biohazard protocols.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and internal quality assurance activities.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and inventory, ensuring reagents and consumables are readily available.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate diagnostic information.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in laboratory techniques and technologies.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior technicians or new staff members.

Required Skills

  • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience as a Medical Lab Technician in a clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests, including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of laboratory safety regulations and quality control procedures.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for data entry and retrieval.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Biomedical Science.
  • Certification from a recognized medical laboratory technologist board (e.g., MLSC, ASCP, or equivalent local certification).
  • Experience with specialized testing areas such as molecular diagnostics or immunology.
  • Familiarity with ISO 15189 accreditation standards.
  • Proficiency in French is a plus.
