Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of complex and routine laboratory tests on biological samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) using automated analyzers and manual methods.
- Ensure accurate sample registration, processing, and proper storage, maintaining strict chain of custody.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, performing daily quality control checks.
- Monitor test results for accuracy, identify abnormal results, and escalate critical findings according to established procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols, quality assurance standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Prepare reagents, stains, and other laboratory solutions accurately.
- Participate in internal and external quality control programs to ensure test reliability.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of junior staff members, if required.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals regarding sample status and results.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, placing orders as needed.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Science from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience as a Medical Lab Technician in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests including Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Serology.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and quality control procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
- Experience with ISO 15189 accreditation standards.
- Specific certifications in specialized laboratory areas (e.g., Blood Banking, Molecular Diagnostics).
- Familiarity with various LIS platforms and electronic health records.
