Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, and process patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) accurately and efficiently.
- Perform a comprehensive range of laboratory tests, including but not limited to hematology, clinical chemistry, serology, and basic microbiology.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Adhere strictly to quality control (QC) procedures, ensuring the accuracy, precision, and reliability of all test results.
- Analyze test results, interpret data, and prepare detailed reports for review by pathologists or physicians.
- Maintain meticulous records of all tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, laboratory accreditation standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering and stocking reagents and consumables.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in laboratory science.
- Collaborate effectively with medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a Medical Lab Technician, preferably in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests and operating diagnostic equipment.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in sample handling and data entry.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in using laboratory information systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration with a relevant professional body in Mauritius or internationally.
- Experience with specific laboratory instruments or specialized testing methodologies.
- Familiarity with ISO 15189 standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and French.
