Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis, including accessioning, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Technologists, adhering strictly to established protocols and quality control measures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and troubleshooting minor issues as needed.
  • Accurately record and document test results, maintaining meticulous records and ensuring data integrity.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, stock supplies, and monitor expiration dates to ensure availability of necessary materials.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, and managing patient information.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and other healthcare professionals regarding specimen status and laboratory procedures.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in French (both spoken and written) is essential given the location in Quebec.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) or similar software.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to handle biological samples and hazardous materials safely and responsibly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Medical Laboratory Assistant or provincial equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance programs and continuous improvement methodologies.
