Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis, including accessioning, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Perform routine laboratory tests under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Technologists, adhering strictly to established protocols and quality control measures.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and troubleshooting minor issues as needed.
- Accurately record and document test results, maintaining meticulous records and ensuring data integrity.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Manage laboratory inventory, stock supplies, and monitor expiration dates to ensure availability of necessary materials.
- Assist with clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, and managing patient information.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and other healthcare professionals regarding specimen status and laboratory procedures.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
- Proficiency in French (both spoken and written) is essential given the location in Quebec.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) or similar software.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory safety procedures.
- Ability to handle biological samples and hazardous materials safely and responsibly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Medical Laboratory Assistant or provincial equivalent.
- Previous experience working in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with quality assurance programs and continuous improvement methodologies.
