Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex laboratory analyses on biological specimens (blood, urine, tissues, etc.) across various disciplines including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and transfusion medicine.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Conduct quality control procedures, evaluate results, and implement corrective actions to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all tests.
  • Interpret and validate laboratory results, communicating critical findings to healthcare professionals in a timely and effective manner.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, quality assurance programs, and regulatory guidelines set by provincial and national bodies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of tests performed, results, and quality control data using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in laboratory science and technology.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science or a related scientific field.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and/or the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of British Columbia (CMLTDBC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a broad range of laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and standard computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CSMLS certification is highly preferred or in progress.
  • Experience with specific laboratory equipment or LIS used in Canadian healthcare settings.
  • Prior experience working in a multi-cultural or international laboratory environment.
  • Additional language proficiency beyond English.
