Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and blood bank.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Analyze and interpret test results, correlating laboratory data with patient conditions to identify critical values and abnormal findings.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control procedures, laboratory policies, safety regulations, and all relevant accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
- Prepare samples for testing, including proper labeling, handling, and storage of patient specimens.
- Document all test results accurately and promptly in the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory methods, procedures, and instrumentation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by ASCP or an equivalent nationally recognized agency.
- Proficiency in performing tests across various laboratory disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank).
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Solid computer skills, including experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Specialized certification in a particular laboratory discipline (e.g., SBB, SM).
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies in a laboratory setting.
- Prior experience in a high-volume hospital or reference laboratory setting.
