Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of laboratory tests, including chemical, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and microbiological tests, ensuring accuracy and precision.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation, performing routine quality control and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Analyze and interpret test results, correlating laboratory findings with patient conditions and flagging abnormal results for appropriate follow-up.
- Prepare patient specimens for testing, including proper labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage according to established protocols.
- Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and adhering to strict confidentiality guidelines.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols, CLIA regulations, HIPAA guidelines, and other relevant state and federal standards.
- Actively participate in quality assurance and quality control programs, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, managing inventory and supplies as needed.
- Assist in the training and mentorship of new laboratory personnel or students, sharing knowledge and best practices.
Required Skills
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field.
- Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or equivalent recognized credentialing agency.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience in an acute care or high-volume setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in performing a variety of laboratory procedures across multiple disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis).
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance principles, including linearity, calibration, and method validation.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in test results.
