Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and disseminate accurate, localized short-term and long-term weather forecasts and warnings for various stakeholders.
  • Interpret complex meteorological data from diverse sources, including radar, satellite imagery, numerical weather prediction models (NWP), and surface observations.
  • Monitor real-time weather conditions and provide timely updates on rapidly evolving weather phenomena, including severe weather.
  • Utilize advanced meteorological software and tools for data visualization, analysis, and forecasting processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners to provide tailored weather insights and support operational planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise weather briefings and comprehensive reports to stakeholders, adapting communication style for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct thorough post-event analysis of significant weather occurrences to identify areas for forecast model improvement and procedural enhancements.
  • Participate actively in continuous professional development to stay current with the latest advancements in meteorological science and technology.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of forecasting methodologies, operational procedures, and new service offerings.
  • Respond to weather-related inquiries and provide expert meteorological advice as needed to support various business functions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in operational weather forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of mesoscale meteorology, synoptic meteorology, and tropical meteorology principles.
  • Proficiency with meteorological data analysis software (e.g., GRADS, GEMPAK, Python libraries like MetPy/Xarray).
  • Familiarity with various numerical weather prediction models and their effective interpretation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a fast-paced, high-pressure operational environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for presenting complex meteorological information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
  • Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) designation or equivalent professional certification.
  • Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for geospatial data integration and analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for advanced data processing and automation of meteorological tasks.
  • Experience in specialized forecasting areas (e.g., aviation, marine, energy, severe weather operations, or environmental consulting).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms for scalable meteorological data storage and processing.
