Job Description

We are actively seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Midwife to join our exceptional maternity and nursing team in St Jean, Quatre Bornes. This vital role involves providing comprehensive midwifery care to expectant mothers, new mothers, and their newborns throughout the perinatal period. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including physical examinations, monitoring fetal development, and offering health education and counselling to expectant mothers.
  • Manage and support women during labor and childbirth, ensuring a safe and positive delivery experience while monitoring maternal and fetal well-being.
  • Perform immediate postnatal care for mothers and newborns, including breastfeeding support, vital sign monitoring, and assessment for potential complications.
  • Educate parents on newborn care, infant feeding, and maternal recovery, empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed for a healthy start.
  • Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, adhering to C-Care's clinical documentation standards and confidentiality policies.
  • Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies, demonstrating proficiency in resuscitation techniques and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training initiatives to stay abreast of the latest advancements in midwifery practice and maternal health.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, respecting their cultural backgrounds and personal choices.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment, fostering open communication and mutual respect among colleagues.

Required Skills

  • Valid Midwifery qualification and registration with the relevant Mauritian professional body.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Midwife in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
  • Proficiency in monitoring labor, conducting deliveries, and managing common obstetric emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize and build rapport with patients and families.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
  • Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications in neonatal resuscitation (NRP) or advanced life support in obstetrics (ALSO).
  • Experience in a high-volume maternity unit.
  • Additional language proficiency (e.g., Creole).
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
