Job Description
We are seeking a highly compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Midwife to join our essential team at the Souillac Community Health Centre in the beautiful Savanne District. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive maternity and nursing care to women and their families throughout the pregnancy journey, from antenatal to postnatal stages. As a Midwife with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, you will be at the forefront of delivering person-centred care, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child, and promoting positive health outcomes within the community.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive antenatal care, including health assessments, education, and emotional support to expectant mothers.
- Assist women during labor and childbirth, ensuring a safe and supportive birthing environment and monitoring the progress of labor.
- Administer postnatal care to mothers and newborns, including breastfeeding support, neonatal care, and family planning advice.
- Conduct health education sessions for individuals and groups on various maternal and child health topics.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to health information protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including doctors, nurses, and other specialists, to ensure integrated patient care.
- Identify and manage potential complications or emergencies during pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period, escalating cases to medical officers as necessary.
- Participate in community outreach programs aimed at improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
- Adhere strictly to professional codes of conduct, ethical guidelines, and all relevant health regulations and policies.
- Provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care to all patients and their families.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Degree in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the Nursing Council of Mauritius.
- Minimum of 4 years of post-registration experience as a Midwife.
- Demonstrated expertise in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a public health setting or community health centre.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas such as neonatal resuscitation or advanced maternal and child health.
- Proficiency in Creole, English, and French.
