Job Description
Tank-Weld Metals Ltd. is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Full-Time Mining Engineer to join our dynamic Field Operations team in Negril, Westmoreland Parish. This is a pivotal on-site role that demands a hands-on approach to managing and optimizing our material extraction and earthworks operations within our ongoing projects and facilities in the region. As a Field Operations Mining Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant execution of all extraction processes, from geological assessment and resource estimation to daily operational supervision and site rehabilitation.
You will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and implementation of mining plans, including blast design (if applicable), excavation methods, and material handling logistics for aggregates and other relevant resources. A key aspect of this role involves meticulous adherence to regulatory standards, implementing best practices in safety protocols, and ensuring environmental stewardship throughout all phases of field operations. You will analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement, optimize equipment utilization, and contribute to cost-effective production strategies. This position requires a strong technical background combined with exceptional leadership skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, and a proactive problem-solving mindset to address challenges directly in the field. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor mining plans and extraction methodologies for aggregate and other natural resources in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, geological assessments, and resource estimation to inform operational strategies and optimize material recovery.
- Supervise daily field operations, including drilling, blasting (if required), excavation, loading, hauling, and material processing, ensuring adherence to production targets and quality standards.
- Implement and enforce stringent safety protocols, conduct regular risk assessments, and ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety regulations to maintain a zero-harm environment.
- Manage equipment utilization, maintenance schedules, and operational efficiency to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Monitor environmental impact, develop and execute reclamation plans, and ensure compliance with environmental permits and legislation.
- Analyze operational data, prepare detailed reports on production, costs, and safety performance, and propose corrective actions or improvements.
- Collaborate with geologists, civil engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure seamless integration of mining operations with broader project goals.
- Train and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the field operations team.
- Identify and implement innovative technologies and practices to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in field operations within the mining, quarrying, or heavy civil construction industries.
- Proficiency in mining software (e.g., AutoCAD, Surpac, MineSight, Vulcan) for design, planning, and resource modeling.
- Strong understanding of geological principles, geotechnical analysis, and mineral resource estimation.
- Demonstrated experience in managing field teams and overseeing complex operational logistics.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations (OSHA, local standards) and environmental compliance pertaining to mining/quarrying.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging outdoor field environment.
- Valid Jamaican driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PEng) registration in Jamaica or eligibility for registration.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies in an operational setting.
- Certification in blasting operations and safety.
- Familiarity with Jamaican environmental regulations and permitting processes.
