Job Description

This role will provide an exceptional learning experience for a dedicated student pursuing a degree in Mining Engineering. As a Mining Engineer Intern at Career.zycto, you’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience working on various stages of mining projects, from initial exploration and resource estimation to mine planning, operations, and closure. This internship is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in academia and the practical application demanded by the industry. You will be actively involved in supporting our client’s engineering teams, contributing to real-world challenges, and learning directly from seasoned professionals.

You’ll have the opportunity to delve into areas such as geological data analysis, mine design using specialized software, ventilation planning, rock mechanics, and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in geological data collection, analysis, and interpretation for resource modeling.
  • Support mine planning activities, including pit/stope optimization, scheduling, and design using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Deswik, Surpac).
  • Conduct basic rock mechanics analyses and assist in ground support design.
  • Participate in ventilation system design and optimization studies.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Support safety inspections and contribute to the development of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct research on new mining technologies, methods, and environmental best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and geologists on various project tasks.
  • Attend site meetings and contribute to discussions regarding operational challenges and solutions.
  • Learn and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong academic record, demonstrating a solid understanding of mining principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic understanding of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of at least the second year of a Mining Engineering program.
  • Previous relevant experience through academic projects, co-op terms, or part-time jobs in engineering or geology.
  • Familiarity with mining-specific software (e.g., Surpac, Deswik, MineSight, Vulcan).
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to the mining industry.
  • Valid G driver's license (or equivalent) is an asset.
