Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mud Logger to join our client’s dynamic team, operating from the Mannheim area. This full-time, on-site role is crucial for providing essential geological data and support during drilling operations, contributing significantly to successful well execution. As a Mud Logger, you will be the eyes and ears at the wellsite, responsible for the continuous monitoring and analysis of drilling parameters, well cuttings, and hydrocarbon gases. Your meticulous data collection and interpretation will directly inform crucial decisions made by the drilling team, ensuring operational safety and efficiency while maximizing geological understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and record drilling parameters, including rate of penetration, weight on bit, and torque, to identify changes in subsurface conditions.
  • Collect, process, and analyze drill cuttings, describing lithology, mineralogy, and fossil content to identify geological formations.
  • Operate and maintain gas detection equipment, analyzing gas shows for hydrocarbon presence and type.
  • Generate comprehensive well logs and daily geological reports, ensuring accuracy and timely communication to the wellsite team and office personnel.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment calibration, sample collection, and data acquisition.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures at the wellsite.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on logging equipment to ensure continuous operational functionality.
  • Collaborate effectively with geologists, drilling engineers, and other wellsite personnel to optimize drilling operations and data interpretation.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Mud Logger or Wellsite Geologist.
  • Strong understanding of drilling operations and wellsite safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in geological interpretation of drill cuttings and core samples.
  • Experience with gas detection equipment and hydrocarbon analysis.
  • Excellent data management and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and remote field environment.
  • Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various wellsite locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geology or a related field.
  • Certifications in wellsite safety (e.g., HUET, BOSIET, First Aid).
  • Familiarity with logging software and data acquisition systems.
  • Fluency in German (B2 level or higher) is a significant advantage.
  • Experience in geothermal or environmental drilling projects.
