You will expertly handle ticketing operations, operate point-of-sale systems, and manage visitor flow, ensuring smooth operations even during peak hours and special events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet and welcome all museum visitors upon arrival.
  • Process admissions, memberships, and gift shop purchases accurately using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
  • Provide comprehensive and engaging information about current exhibitions, permanent collections, and educational programs.
  • Assist visitors with wayfinding, general inquiries, and special requests, ensuring a positive and seamless experience.
  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, and reconcile daily sales with precision.
  • Monitor gallery spaces to ensure visitor safety, security, and adherence to museum policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front desk, lobby, and other public areas.
  • Assist with special events, group tours, and educational workshops as required.
  • Respond professionally to phone calls and emails, providing helpful and timely information.
  • Address visitor feedback and resolve minor issues promptly and courteously, escalating complex situations when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in customer service, retail, or hospitality roles.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in operating Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and handling cash transactions accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm, composed demeanor under pressure.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and email.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a museum, art gallery, or other cultural institution.
  • Knowledge of New Westminster's history, local culture, or artistic community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a second language (e.g., Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish).
  • Post-secondary education or coursework in history, museum studies, arts administration, or a related field.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
