Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Network Engineer to join our dynamic IT team in Broughton, Edinburgh. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting our critical network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, unwavering security, and seamless connectivity for our operations and clients. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other network segments.
- Configure and troubleshoot network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN concentrators.
- Monitor network performance and availability, implementing proactive measures to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Manage and maintain network security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and access controls.
- Provide advanced network support and incident resolution, working with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedural guides.
- Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and new technology evaluations.
- Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures in line with industry best practices and compliance requirements.
- Perform regular network audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Collaborate with system administrators, developers, and other IT personnel to ensure integrated and efficient IT services.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer (minimum 4 years).
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, VLANs).
- Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto).
- Expertise in network security principles and technologies (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, NAC).
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG).
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, Fortinet NSE, JNCIA, CompTIA Network+).
- Experience with cloud networking platforms (e.g., AWS VPC, Azure VNet).
- Knowledge of scripting for network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible).
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies.
- Understanding of ITIL framework and best practices.
