Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Network Engineer to join our growing technical team on Ormeau Road, Belfast. This pivotal role requires a proactive professional with a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity, fortifying security, and providing critical support across our diverse environments. As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the health and performance of our network, contributing significantly to our operational resilience and strategic growth. You will work with a variety of technologies including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless systems, making direct contributions to projects that enhance our internal and client-facing services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues, ensuring high availability and optimal network operation.
  • Implement and manage network security measures, including firewall rules, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
  • Perform regular network audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and end-users on network-related issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical network incidents and provide timely resolution.
  • Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations for improvements and upgrades.
  • Manage IP addressing schemes, VLANs, and other network segmentation strategies.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure network requirements are met for new initiatives and deployments.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with Cisco or equivalent enterprise-level networking equipment (routers, switches).
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and switching technologies (VLANs, STP).
  • Hands-on experience with network security devices such as firewalls (e.g., FortiGate, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA).
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting VPNs (IPsec, SSL VPN).
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Fortinet NSE, or equivalent.
  • Experience with cloud networking (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Knowledge of wireless networking standards and technologies.
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python) for network automation.
  • Experience with SD-WAN solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
