Job Description
Greater Sudbury Utilities Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and eager-to-learn individual to join our team as a Remote Network Operations Trainee. This is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring IT professional to gain hands-on experience in a critical utility environment, working with cutting-edge network technologies from the comfort of your home. As a Remote Network Operations Trainee, you will be an integral part of our Network Operations Center (NOC) team, assisting in the monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of GSU’s extensive network infrastructure. While working remotely, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, allowing you to develop a foundational understanding of network protocols, security practices, and operational procedures. You will learn to identify and resolve network incidents, contribute to documentation, and support senior engineers in ensuring optimal network performance and reliability. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network performance and system health using various tools and dashboards.
- Assist in the identification, diagnosis, and resolution of network incidents and outages.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of network connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi).
- Support the deployment and configuration of network devices under supervision.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of network documentation, including diagrams, procedures, and inventory.
- Escalate complex issues to senior network engineers and support personnel.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required after sufficient training.
- Adhere to all IT security policies and best practices.
- Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and best practices in network operations.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially for remote collaboration.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote environment.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
