Key Responsibilities
- Safely and punctually transport personnel, volunteers, beneficiaries, and various goods/equipment to designated locations within Butetown, Cardiff, and surrounding areas.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all vehicles are in excellent working condition, clean, and well-maintained.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, routes taken, and maintenance records.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety regulations.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper securing of items to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Plan and optimize routes to ensure efficiency, considering traffic, road conditions, and timely arrivals.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, field teams, and office staff regarding schedules, potential delays, or vehicle issues.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances on the road, following established safety and reporting procedures.
- Represent the organization professionally and courteously to all individuals, fostering positive community relations.
- Perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks as needed, or arrange for professional servicing when required.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Driving License (Category B) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of professional driving experience, preferably in a logistics or community-facing role.
- Excellent knowledge of road networks and geographical areas within Cardiff, particularly Butetown, and wider South Wales.
- Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a polite and helpful demeanor.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to lift and move moderate loads (up to 25kg) safely.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of beneficiaries and the community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience driving for an NGO, charity, or similar non-profit organization.
- Advanced driving qualification or defensive driving course certification.
