Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and responsible NGO Driver – Logistics & Field to join our dedicated team in Cults, Aberdeen. This crucial role is at the heart of our operational success, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of personnel, goods, and vital equipment to various project sites and community locations. As an NGO Driver, you will be instrumental in supporting our humanitarian and development initiatives, often operating in diverse environments and under varying conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles (vans, 4x4s, potentially light trucks) for the transportation of staff, volunteers, supplies, and equipment to various project locations across the region.
  • Plan and execute efficient routes, considering road conditions, security advisories, and delivery schedules to ensure timely arrivals.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, fuel consumption records, mileage reports, and maintenance schedules for all assigned vehicles.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring vehicles are clean, fueled, and in optimal working condition, reporting any deficiencies promptly.
  • Arrange for and oversee timely vehicle servicing, minor repairs, and mandatory inspections with approved mechanics, managing the necessary paperwork.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring proper securing, handling, and protection of items to prevent damage during transit.
  • Adhere strictly to all national traffic laws, internal safety policies, and security procedures to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.
  • Represent Career.zycto professionally and courteously to partners, beneficiaries, local authorities, and the public.
  • Provide logistical support during field operations, including setting up equipment or assisting with minor on-site tasks as needed by the project team.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, mechanical issues, or security concerns promptly and accurately to the Logistics Coordinator and relevant management.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK driving license (Category B minimum; B+E or C1 desirable).
  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a professional driver, preferably in an NGO or humanitarian context.
  • Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and traffic laws specific to Scotland.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to navigate unfamiliar routes efficiently using maps, GPS technology, and local knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail for record-keeping and documentation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Physical fitness to assist with loading/unloading, manual handling, and vehicle maintenance tasks.
  • A clean driving record with no major endorsements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced driving qualification or defensive driving certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience driving 4×4 vehicles in varied terrain (urban, rural, potentially unpaved roads).
  • Familiarity with the Aberdeen and surrounding Grampian area road networks.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle security protocols and emergency procedures.
