As a Night Shift Personal Support Worker, you will be the comforting presence for our clients through the quiet hours, monitoring their needs, assisting with personal care, and responding promptly to any concerns. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care services to clients, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting during night hours.
  • Monitor clients' conditions throughout the night, observing and reporting any changes in physical, mental, or emotional state to the appropriate supervisors.
  • Assist clients with safe transfers and ambulation, utilizing proper body mechanics and assistive devices as needed.
  • Administer medication reminders as per care plan and document adherence.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties, ensuring the client's immediate environment remains tidy and safe.
  • Prepare snacks or simple meals as required and ensure clients remain hydrated.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, offering a reassuring presence during the night.
  • Accurately document all care provided, observations, and significant incidents in client records.
  • Respond to emergencies or urgent situations calmly and efficiently, following established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere strictly to all privacy regulations (e.g., PHIPA) and company policies.
  • Respect cultural values and traditions of clients within the Iqaluit community.

Required Skills

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate or equivalent healthcare qualification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in a direct care role, preferably in a home care or long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to care.
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the job (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods).
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Northern or remote communities.
  • Bilingualism (English and Inuktitut).
  • Experience with dementia care or other specific health conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (asset, but not always required for all shifts/locations).
