Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients on the general ward, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, accurately documenting all actions.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, observing patients' conditions and reporting any changes or concerns to the medical team.
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition.
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, adhering to all clinical governance and data protection guidelines.
  • Collaborate effectively with doctors, therapists, healthcare assistants, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Ensure a safe and clean ward environment, strictly adhering to infection control policies and health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in ward rounds, contributing to care planning and decision-making processes.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their dignity, rights, and preferences are respected at all times.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide immediate first aid or resuscitation as required.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Proven experience as a General Ward Nurse, ideally 2+ years.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in medication administration and wound care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patient-centered approach.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding, and infection control.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Proficient in electronic patient record systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) in Nursing.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience with specific patient groups (e.g., elderly care, post-surgical).
  • Participation in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentorship qualification or experience.
