Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients on the general ward, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, accurately documenting all actions.
- Monitor and record vital signs, observing patients' conditions and reporting any changes or concerns to the medical team.
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition.
- Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care instructions.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, adhering to all clinical governance and data protection guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with doctors, therapists, healthcare assistants, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Ensure a safe and clean ward environment, strictly adhering to infection control policies and health and safety regulations.
- Participate in ward rounds, contributing to care planning and decision-making processes.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their dignity, rights, and preferences are respected at all times.
- Respond to emergencies and provide immediate first aid or resuscitation as required.
Required Skills
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Proven experience as a General Ward Nurse, ideally 2+ years.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in medication administration and wound care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patient-centered approach.
- Sound knowledge of clinical governance, safeguarding, and infection control.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Proficient in electronic patient record systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSc (Hons) in Nursing.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience with specific patient groups (e.g., elderly care, post-surgical).
- Participation in quality improvement initiatives.
- Mentorship qualification or experience.
