Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility, ensuring their dignity and comfort are always maintained.
  • Accurately monitor, record, and report vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and other patient observations to the nursing staff.
  • Support Registered Nurses with various medical procedures and treatments as directed, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient rooms, common areas, and medical equipment to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Assist with patient transfers, ambulation, and positioning, utilizing proper body mechanics and equipment to prevent injury.
  • Document patient care activities, observations, and any changes in patient condition accurately and promptly in patient records.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and all members of the healthcare team, providing updates and addressing concerns.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient call bells and requests, providing immediate assistance or escalating to nursing staff when necessary.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals, encouraging patients to eat and monitoring their dietary intake.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, helping to alleviate anxiety and promote a positive healing environment.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in basic nursing care procedures (e.g., vital signs measurement, personal care assistance).
  • Current certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Exceptional communication and active listening skills, with proficiency in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patience in patient interactions.
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, demanding healthcare environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills for accurate patient assessment and reporting.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, lifting, and bending for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate in Healthcare Assistant, Nursing Aide, or a related patient care qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar role in a reputable hospital or clinical setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and common health conditions.
  • Computer literacy for electronic health record documentation and basic administrative tasks.
