Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations and health history.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory tests, X-rays) and make appropriate referrals.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and health conditions.
- Prescribe medications, treatments, and other therapeutic interventions in accordance with provincial regulations and scope of practice.
- Provide health education, counseling, and health promotion strategies to individuals and families.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
- Provide urgent care and episodic care as needed, ensuring timely access for patients.
- Act as a resource and mentor for other healthcare team members, contributing to a learning environment.
Required Skills
- Master of Nursing (MN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a Nurse Practitioner specialization.
- Current registration and licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Competency in using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a primary care or family practice setting.
- Additional certifications in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) or pediatric advanced life support (PALS).
- Bilingualism (English and other languages prevalent in the West Edmonton community).
- Experience with quality improvement methodologies in healthcare.
