Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Nursing Support Aide to join our compassionate healthcare team, serving the community of Reading, Montego Bay. Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) accurately and report any significant changes to the nursing staff.
- Monitor and document fluid intake and output, reporting any abnormalities.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe patient environment, including changing bed linens and ensuring supplies are stocked.
- Assist with patient transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families, fostering a reassuring atmosphere.
- Respond promptly to patient calls and requests, ensuring their immediate needs are met with professionalism.
- Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer procedures for patients, ensuring smooth transitions.
- Document patient care activities, observations, and other data in patient records as directed by registered nurses.
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies, safety protocols, and all hospital regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated patient care.
- Transport patients, specimens, and equipment as needed within the facility, ensuring safe handling.
- Assist with basic wound care, specimen collection, and other medical procedures under direct supervision of nursing staff.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in a healthcare support role (e.g., patient care assistant, caregiver) or completion of a relevant training program.
- Basic knowledge of patient care principles and medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with patients, families, and staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding, and often emotionally challenging environment.
- Physical stamina to perform duties that require standing, walking, lifting, and bending for extended periods.
- Proficiency in taking and accurately recording vital signs.
- Understanding and strict adherence to patient confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Experience working specifically in a hospital or acute care setting.
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
